SAVING LIVES IN DIFFICULT TIMES
Medical care in Sierra Leone has continued to deteriorate over the past months. Cuts to UN programmes have led to shortages of life-saving vaccines and essential medicines.
just human cannot close all these gaps — but through the project “Saving Lives in Sierra Leone”, we continue to provide medical assistance where it is needed most.
During the rainy season, many roads in northern Sierra Leone become almost impassable. Nevertheless, Mohamed Lamin, head of the Community Health Centre in Firawa, regularly sets out on his journey.
Travelling by motorcycle, he collects urgently needed medicines funded through donations to just human: antibiotics, antimalarial drugs and painkillers. These medicines save lives — especially in rural areas where large hospitals are out of reach for many people.
Support has also reached Susan’s Bay, a densely populated informal settlement near Freetown. Almamy Bah, our dedicated staff member in Sierra Leone, personally delivered the medicines there.
DONATION EVENT MAKES LIFE-SAVING SURGERY POSSIBLE
A particularly moving example shows how tangible this support can be: at Masanga Hospital, S. B., who was seriously injured in a workplace accident, was able to undergo surgery thanks to a donation event organised by Economia GmbH from Stuttgart. Two operations are required to enable the young man to return to a normal life. The first operation was successfully carried out in September 2025.
