Projects for Humanity and Protection

SUPPORT FOR PEOPLE FACING PERSECUTION, FLIGHT, AND HARDSHIP

Just Human supports people affected by war, violence, political or personal persecution, exploitation, structural causes of forced migration, or economic hardship. Support can be provided at all stages of persecution or displacement: in one’s home country, during flight, or in the place of refuge. The goal is to help enable a life of safety and self-determination.

A key focus of our work is supporting women and girls as well as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, and intersex people whose human rights are violated. To ensure that people can live in safety, we also work to eliminate the root causes of forced migration. We advocate against arms trafficking and climate change and for the establishment and strengthening of democratic structures and public institutions.

We dream of building or acquiring a Peace House — a suitable building or group of buildings. In the Peace House, we aim to create space for training and qualification, education, and collaborative work toward the goals of just human. It will be a safe place for learning, research, counseling, exchange, and encounter. At the same time, the Peace House will offer an environment for rest and empowerment.

MAISON CHARLOTTE

(ATHEN)

__________________________

Maison Charlotte is a safe house for refugee women and children established by just human in Athens in June 2020. Two case workers support the women and children at Maison Charlotte.

PROTECTION AND SUPPORT IN

STARTING A SELF DETERMINED LIFE

__________________________

In Athens, just human supports refugee women — including trans women and mothers — as they begin their journey toward a self-determined life. The project provides housing, assistance in finding employment, and childcare support so that the women can live safely, work, and shape their future in Greece.

SAVING LIVES

IN SIERRA LEONE

__________________________

With Saving Lives in Sierra Leone, just human enables life-saving medical treatment for people without access to healthcare, working together with Connaught Hospital and Caritas Sierra Leone — quickly, efficiently, and directly on the ground.

ADDRESSING ROOT CAUSE

OF FORCED MIGRATION

__________________________

just human works to eliminate root causes of forced migration such as climate change, arms trafficking, exploitation, and lack of democracy. Through education and concrete projects — for example, supporting education and livelihood opportunities for Roma families in the Balkans — we help create perspectives and strengthen communities on the ground.
